It is sad to note that the major source of historical information in most parts of Africa is oral tradition and Ghana is no exception. At the moment we are well trained in over 100 dances. We believe that the older folk in the remote villages have a wealth of information on the traditions and dances of their areas. It is not a good idea to contact an elder who has not stayed in his traditional area for the greater part of his life. He may either tell you the truth that he has no knowledge, or he will tell you half truth.

 

We also believe that in order to be sure of the facts, one needs to contact as many elders as possible on a particular subject and compare notes. That is exactly what we have done and continue to do.

 

Our team does thorough and careful research into the dances before introducing it to the groups. It therefore implies that we do not normally encourage choreographs, even though we have some of them created by our teachers and National Technical Director.
